A London software company, founded in August 2021, registered in the United Kingdom under company number 13232073. I am its founder and CEO.

What it builds

The company's first product is Scanner, a document-scanning app. Its distinguishing feature is that it uses artificial intelligence to highlight the most critical clauses in a legal agreement, directing the reader to the sections they should read before signing. That single feature is the reason the product exists, and the argument for it is set out at length elsewhere on this site: the difficulty is not reading a contract, it is knowing which 3 paragraphs in it deserve your attention.

What it sells

SmartUP Innovations also provides product management and marketing services to other companies. This is not a side activity kept quiet in the corner. It is deliberate, and it shapes how the company works.

Client work brings deadlines set by someone other than us, and problems shaped by someone else's constraints rather than our assumptions. A product team that only ever sees its own roadmap gradually starts designing for the user it imagines. A team that also has to deliver against other companies' briefs keeps meeting the user who actually exists. It also funds the product work, which means our own roadmap can answer to what users need rather than to a financing calendar.

How it is organised

10 developers, and me. What that involves day to day is described separately, but the short version is that at this size the binding constraint is shared understanding rather than headcount. Most weeks the highest-value thing I do is write something down precisely enough that nobody has to guess.

The record

The company is on the UK register under number 13232073, which makes its filings and its officers a matter of public record. I regard that as a feature. A company whose details anyone can look up is a company you can decide about on evidence.

Where it came from

The company began with a written business plan and a pitch, which is what secured my UK Start-up visa in 2021. I later read for an MSc in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management at Imperial College London, from 2024 to 2025, while the company was operating.
